Gamers welcomed Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) as the Indian version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) after it was released on Google Play Store and App Store in 2021. Their joy, however, was short-lived when in July 2022 India outlawed Krafton’s wildly popular battle royale game.
There are persistent rumours that the game would soon return to India, but when will it actually happen? No one but Krafton knows. Although a return date for the game has not yet been officially announced, Krafton is making every effort to make it available to Indian players once more. Also, a number of YouTube content producers asserted that the game would return to the Indian market.
Indian BGMI ban
The Indian government outlawed South Korean developer Krafton’s BGMI due to safety concerns.
In accordance with section 69A of the IT Act 2000, the game was outlawed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technologies (Meity).
Because to safety concerns, the government outlawed other Chinese applications and the hugely popular game PUBG in 2020.
In July 2022, the game was taken down from the Play Store and App Store.
According to sources, the game was banned when it was revealed that BGMI was simply a rebranded version of PUBG and that Chinese corporation Tencent was still in charge of the game on the backend. The Indian government hasn’t made an official statement regarding why BGMI was banned.
BGMI reportedly communicating with
Following the suspension, Krafton issued a formal statement assuring players that the game would return to India and that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology would help them resolve the problems (MeitY). The statement added, “We are explaining why BGMI was taken down from the Google Play store and the App store and will let you know as we get more information.”
In July 2022, a company spokesman claimed, “We are clarifying how BGMI was removed from the Google Play store and the App store and will let you know once we have specific information,” in an interview with India Today Tech.
